Design Urban provided urban design support to Urbacity who were commissioned to produce a strategy to improve retail performance in Albury centres. This study linked retail performance to streetscape designs and parking arrangements in the centres. Design Urban designed new street profiles which increased parking in streets by around 30% while also increasing the number of street trees by approximately 400%. The strategy provided a logic for creating both short-stay parking as well as longer-stay parking in streets to support local shops. This avoids the need to create more on-site surface parking lots. As part of the analysis, a survey and assessment of activation of streets was conducted to identify those streets where new streetscape treatment would improve the experience of people in streets.
