Design Urban and Professor Rob Adams were commissioned to develop a streetscape improvement strategy for Central Geelong. This was named the “City in a Park” strategy. The study included an Urban Triage analysis of the city centre and design proposals for streetscape and park enhancements. Implementation has begun with streetscape improvements in a number of streets designed by Design Urban, and other streets, liaising with landscape architects, all constructed by the City of Greater Geelong. This includes the creation of a new award-winning Green Spine in Malop Street (designed by Outlines Landscape Architects). The overall City in a Park project proposes to add an additional 2.5 hectares of open space to the central city, a dramatically increased tree canopy in public streets, and stormwater management to prevent storm-related flooding. The implementation work remains ongoing
